Even when you dressed yourself first thing in the morning only to choose pants that were a little too tight and set yourself up for failure the rest of the day. Even when you waited a little longer than desired for your first meal of the day and became less grace giving by the minute. Even when you went to a coffee shop for relaxation and all of the employees seemed to care a little too little. Even when you swore up and down and left and right that you wouldn't eat a cookie, but you did, and a big one at that (only making your pants even tighter). Even when you had a never ending list of things to get done and instead took a nap that was just about as lengthy as the list was long. Even when you had an elaborate dinner plan that would be extremely photo worthy, but you wound up getting canned soup and enjoying it 10x more because it took 10x less the effort. Even when your cat scratches up your new couch while making eye contact with you.
Even when these kinds of things keep coming your way, it is still a day worth having, enjoying, learning, and growing from. Right?
Even when little things seem so large you could cry, there can always be something good in the bad, something light in the darkness. Big or small, we ultimately have the power over our own selves. On days like today and times like these, I have found it helpful to catch each moment where it's at, and find at least one thing I'm thankful for within it.
At least I have pants to put on. At least I have great community to enjoy conversation with. At least I tasted the best tea I've ever tasted and had the money to buy a cookie. At least I will have plenty of future opportunities to choose differently. At least I let my body rest and I have tomorrow off to get things done. At least I have food to feed my body despite it's cuteness. At least I have two cute and furry little felines to care for and that I think care for me too. At least I have a husband by my side to experience everything with and who loves me very much. Even more so, at least I have God by my side to experience everything with and who loves me even more.
"This is the day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it."
Let's be glad!
Glad in the happy times.
Glad in the sad times.
Glad in the exciting times.
Glad in the confusing times.
What are you glad for today?
